Principal Geoscientist | OQEP – Muscat, Oman

Motivational Introduction:
Join OQEP as a Principal Geoscientist and shape the future of exploration in Oman. This role allows you to lead geoscience activities across exploration and appraisal projects, integrate multi-disciplinary data, and mentor the next generation of geoscientists while contributing to strategic exploration decisions.

Role Overview

Provide geological and geophysical expertise to guide subsurface evaluation, de-risk exploration prospects, and support upstream opportunities. Lead regional and prospect-scale studies, ensure high-quality technical outputs, and contribute to strategic exploration planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional and prospect-scale geological and geophysical evaluation.

  • Perform basin and play fairway analysis to identify new exploration opportunities.

  • Integrate seismic, well, and geochemical data to generate robust subsurface models.

  • Conduct 2D/3D seismic interpretation, well correlation, and seismic attribute analysis.

  • Perform time-to-depth conversion and velocity sensitivity analysis.

  • Conduct hydrocarbon volumetric assessment (probabilistic/deterministic).

  • Assess geological risk and uncertainty of plays, prospects, and leads.

  • Prepare well proposals, technical presentations, and reports.

  • Propose and oversee new data acquisition (seismic, core, petrophysical).

  • Lead subsurface studies for basin, play, and prospect evaluation.

  • Support preparation of notional development plans and investment/farm-in proposals.

  • Contribute to short-term (yearly) and medium-term (5-year) exploration business planning.

  • Mentor and coach geoscience staff to develop independent performers.

  • Ensure compliance with HSE and company policies, promoting a proactive safety culture.

Requirements

  • BSc in Geoscience or relevant field.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in exploration and development.

  • Proven expertise in G&G data interpretation, play mapping, prospect evaluation, volumetric estimation, and geological risk analysis.

  • Deep understanding of regional geology, structural interpretation, stratigraphy, and petroleum systems.

  • Experience with Petrel, ArcGIS, and other relevant software.

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English; Arabic desirable.

  • Track record of mentoring and developing junior staff.

  • Preference for Omani candidates.

المهام والمسؤوليات

  • قيادة التقييم الجيولوجي والجيوفيزيائي على مستوى الإقليم والمشاريع.

  • إجراء تحليلات الأحواض ومسارات اللعب لتحديد فرص الاستكشاف الجديدة.

  • دمج بيانات الزلازل والآبار والكيمياء الجيولوجية لإنشاء نماذج تحت سطحية قوية.

  • تنفيذ تفسير الزلازل ثنائية وثلاثية الأبعاد، ومطابقة الآبار، وتحليل خصائص الزلازل.

  • إجراء تحويل الوقت إلى العمق وتحليل حساسية السرعة.

  • تقييم حجم الموارد الهيدروكربونية (احتمالي/حتمي).

  • تقييم المخاطر والشكوك الجيولوجية للحقول والمشاريع.

  • إعداد مقترحات الآبار والعروض الفنية والتقارير.
