Wood is hiring a Senior Process Control Engineer to join its team in Sohar, Oman. The role leads end-to-end process control initiatives—from opportunity identification to implementation and continuous optimization—ensuring efficiency, safety, and operational excellence across major industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead identification, analysis, and execution of process optimization opportunities as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
• Develop and enhance APC, RTO, PID tuning, and Alarm Rationalization projects.
• Provide expert technical support to engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
• Mentor junior engineers in process control and optimization principles.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, legal, and industry best practices.

Typical Responsibilities

• Lead advanced process control and optimization to improve efficiency, yield, and energy use.
• Manage control loop tuning and performance stability.
• Oversee alarm management and rationalization to improve operator response.
• Troubleshoot complex issues with operational, economic, and reliability considerations.
• Participate in design reviews, proposal evaluations, and project development.
• Monitor APC and DCS performance and conduct RCA for continuous improvement.
• Participate in HAZOP studies to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

Experience
• 10+ years in process control, automation, or related fields within Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Petrochemicals.
• Experience in non-linear APC (e.g., Polymers)—preferred.
• Experience in RTO and AI applications—preferred.

Soft Skills
• Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
• Critical thinking, influence, prioritization, decisiveness, planning, and results orientation.

Technical Skills
• Proficiency in APC suites such as Aspen DMC, PACE, or Honeywell Profit.
• Strong experience in PID tuning and control loop performance.
• Deep knowledge of DCS platforms (Yokogawa, Honeywell, Schneider, etc.).
• Understanding of refinery processes, petrochemical operations, and economics.
• Knowledge of alarm rationalization, bad actor analysis, and suppression strategies.
• Experience in project management, commissioning, and performance monitoring.
• Understanding of steady-state and dynamic simulations.
